My Baby GirlOctober 8
On October 5th, my husband and I welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. After 12 hours of labor, Tessa made us a family.
Jim and I will post our birth story soon to share, but here are some quick notes on what went down.
-Jim was supposed to run a half marathon that day, but Tessa had another marathon for us in mind.
-My water broke around 1am. We picked up my mom and were admitted to the hospital around 3:30am. Our doula Linda H. and midwife Maria G. met us at the hospital.
-The contractions weren’t too bad for the first 6-8 hours. I would jist lean against the wall, worked on my deep breathing and swayed my hips. I was able to sleep and rest between contractions.
-Heat packs and massage helped greatly to ease my back pain. I ended up hanging out in a warm shower for over an hour.
-We covered the clock so I wouldn’t notice how quickly or slowly things we progressing.
-I didn’t mind the fetal monitoring since I wanted to see how the baby’s heart rate was doing. It was actually reassuring to hear and see her heart rate on the monitor.
-I cried when I was pushing. I think it took me about 20 minutes of pushing. I am proud to have gone through labor and delivery unmedicated. Thank goodness all went well.
-Jim tearfully announced “It’s a girl!”
-Tessa was brought up to my chest immediately. After a few minutes of crying, she rested there and we just spent the next hour looking at each other.
-The first thing I said to Tessa was “I love you so much. Happy birthday sweetie.”
-As exhausted as I was, I didn’t sleep much afterwards. I spent the first night watching Tessa sleep. I couldn’t stop staring at her.
We are so blessed to have Tessa in our lives. Our baby girl was welcomed with great care and love.
